FluxWorks at WorkHub | A Hardtech Tenant Story

In a world full of opportunities and challenges, Bryton Praslicka stands out as a young entrepreneur with a clear vision and determination. As the founder and CEO of FluxWorks, an innovative company specializing in magnetic gear technologies, he exemplifies how taking bold steps can lead to transformative results.

The Beginning of a Journey

Bryton’s journey began with an email that changed the course of his professional life. While pursuing his PhD at Texas A&M University, he was deeply engaged in developing magnetic gear technologies. In October 2021, he formed FluxWorks and started bidding for contracts himself. In September 2022, during class, he received an email with an invitation to develop a project for the Army. “It was a no-brainer,” he recalls. “I said yes. I reviewed the implications of getting the project up and running, set up the company, and we started operations.”

However, this path wasn’t without obstacles. Bryton had previously launched a business that didn’t take off. When this new opportunity arose, he sought advice from his girlfriend, who is now his wife. He recognized the sacrifices that would come with taking on this project, especially since he was committed to completing his PhD while developing the business.

From Solitary Vision to Collaborative Growth

Initially, FluxWorks operated as a one-man company. However, it quickly garnered attention and began receiving requests for consulting projects from prestigious institutions like NASA and the U.S. Army. Today, FluxWorks boasts a team of 10 full-time specialists.

The company’s name combines two significant concepts: “Flux,” referring to magnetic flux, and “Works,” which signifies the reliability and functionality of its projects. “Our products are designed to meet critical tasks, whether it’s for a Humvee or an army tank on a mission or a development for energy conversion. They must always work—and work correctly,” Bryton explained in a very interesting chat with WorkHub.

Navigating Challenges and Seizing Opportunities

While FluxWorks has experienced rapid growth in its early years, Bryton acknowledges challenges in finding everyday applications for their technology. “People often find this technology unfamiliar or unattainable. They struggle to visualize its practical implementation in their industry, and that’s where our creativity comes in,” he states.

Importantly, FluxWorks has achieved its growth primarily through self-funding, relying on the successful completion of projects to establish and expand the company. Bryton believes that in the coming years, magnetic gear technology will find more widespread applications beyond space, energy transformation, and defense sectors, allowing FluxWorks to solidify its position in diverse industries including wastewater treatment, food & beverage processing, and more.

A noteworthy hurdle lies in demonstrating their technology's potential benefits and applications to clients. “Our challenge is illustrating the possibilities for integrating this technology into their operations. It can lead to significant savings and improvements in their processes,” he added.

A Unified Team Bryton takes pride in the team they have built, which is composed of talented individuals who share a commitment to the company’s vision. “It’s gratifying to see how everyone on the team engages in the projects. We know we’re still a growing startup, and having collaborators who share our vision is incredibly rewarding. As we set up our new offices in WorkHub, some team members have even relocated to be closer and support us in this new chapter.”

To foster a strong company culture, FluxWorks holds weekly meetings where team members discuss project updates as well as mission, vision, values, and purpose, ensuring everyone is aligned.

Looking ahead, the direction for FluxWorks in 2025 is clear. The team conducts quarterly meetings to evaluate key performance indicators to ensure they remain on track.

Another source of pride for Bryton was his ability to take time off for his honeymoon, knowing he had a reliable team capable of handling operations in his absence.

The Value of Mentorship Bryton emphasizes the importance of having a network of advisors for effective decision-making, both in business and in life. “I advise young entrepreneurs, and even those with experience, to build a network of mentors. They may not provide concrete answers, but they can guide you by challenging your thinking. Ultimately, the decision is yours, and you must trust your instincts.”
