Steelbonnet
In a pleasant chat we had with Alan Delgado, Director of Operations at Steelbonnet, we learned about their projects, processes, and challenges that they face daily, as well as the expansion plans they have projected for the following years.
Add value to your projects
Alan shares with us that upon graduating from Architecture, he discovered that the area that adds the most value to the success of a construction project is the area of Project Management. When he realized that, he confirmed his vocation in that industry and decided to pursue a Master’s degree in Construction Project Management along with his professional development within renowned firms.
“We strive to establish long-term relationships with both our suppliers and our customers.” Alan Delgado

“When I started my work experience, I decided to strengthen my knowledge in project management. I completed a Master’s degree and have continued to educate myself with courses, training, and certifications. My goal is not only to apply this knowledge in my daily work but also to share it, teach, and raise the professional level of my team.
Currently, clients and investors seek greater certainty and control in their projects and investments. At Steelbonnet we have developed methodologies and tools based on international standards, managing to improve communication with those involved and provide almost real-time information about their projects.”

Driving growth
Steelbonnet was born in 2016 as a construction company with a focus on commercial retail projects and flexible industrial developments. Within their portfolio of projects, Steelbonnet stands out for providing their clients with spaces that drive and encourage business growth. Within their processes, they have a comprehensive value chain that ranges from the acquisition of supplies and materials to the installation, start-up, and maintenance of all project components.
“We strive to establish long-term relationships with both our suppliers and our customers. Our way of working is supported by recognized international industry standards, such as the Project Management Institute, International Project Management Association, Construction Management Association of America, National Building Code, and Lean Construction, to name a few. This allows us to communicate in the same language as the construction market nationwide.”

Step by step creating success
Steelbonnet has successfully developed and implemented their methodologies and work tools. In our interview, Alan mentioned that they have formed a very good experienced team that understands the company’s philosophy, but above all, the needs of their clients, and most importantly, meeting quality, time, and budget expectations. In the last two years, the Steelbonnet team has had to navigate large industrial projects simultaneously, remotely, and with multidisciplinary teams.
“Our methodologies and work tools are essential elements in our work, but what sets us apart is our ability to understand our clients’ business. We strive to identify what truly contributes to the growth of everyone’s business.

Claudia Valenzuela - Pre Development Manager
The main challenge has been to incorporate a structure of processes and methodologies as a fundamental basis in our technical, commercial, administrative, and human resources departments. This has been key to improving budget control, quality, communication, and resource management in our projects.”
Each project Steelbonnet tackles is unique at its core, due to factors such as location, size, city, or state. However, Alan mentions that all its processes are designed to standardize and manage the variables that arise during the conceptualization, pre-construction, construction, and maintenance stages of the project.

Thinking big
Steelbonnet currently has a team of 8, but regardless of size, they have managed to successfully carry out large industrial projects. “We are a small team of 8 specialists, with members including construction supervisors, pre-construction coordinators, and administrative staff, some of whom work outside of Texas and even out of the country. Our collaboration focuses on maintaining constant communication through digital tools and platforms. In addition, we establish formal communication with shareholders through weekly and monthly reports on progress in construction and pre-construction.”

Following the global experience of the COVID-19 pandemic, the construction industry has adopted various communication tools to control, monitor, and maintain a constant connection with clients and suppliers. This has allowed them to integrate collaborators located in different latitudes to continue supervising and controlling their projects, regardless of their location.

Steelbonnet + WorkHub, a winning duo
Alan shares with us that Steelbonnet and WorkHub have practically grown side-by-side since the beginning of WorkHub, the construction company he directs has been involved in the construction of all its developments.
“In collaboration with WorkHub, we have developed highly effective work methodologies that range from budget control, contract management, estimates, and time control, to the implementation of reporting systems. In addition, we have integrated tools such as the documentation of lessons learned, following recognized industry standards.”

Big things coming ahead
With the collaboration of WorkHub, Steelbonnet’s growth looks extremely stimulating and interesting. The construction company seeks to grow with 5 to 7 annual projects in all stages, from pre-construction, construction, and maintenance; in addition to accelerating the expansion of its operations to other states in the country.
“We are looking to integrate a team that helps us position Steelbonnet in each of the different cities WorkHub is planning projects, with this, we seek to guarantee complete control of subcontractors, resources, and times, always under a standard not only of processes, but of quality in our projects.”
Currently, the construction company is working simultaneously on 5 industrial parks, 4 of them in Texas and one in Colorado.

Understanding your client
At the end of the conversation, Alan shared with us a reflection about his professional development:
“Throughout my professional career, I have learned that as a builder and project manager, one of the fundamental aspects lies in identifying what truly adds value for the client. To achieve this, it is essential to thoroughly understand their core business.”
